Sibling Network

Together we share, for hope, for understanding and for connections.

Our network provides a basis for joining those who share in the care and understanding of intellectual and other developmental disabilities.

Events

They are your family. You're there for them.

And we’re here for you.
The New Hope Community Sibling Network.

When you spend a lifetime helping support a brother or sister with an intellectual or other developmental disabilities, you carry with you unique experiences and emotions.

The New Hope Community Sibling Network is a support group and resource center for brothers and sisters of people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. We’re here to share our experiences and ideas so we can support one another.

Have a question? Wondering if there’s a resource to help with a particular challenge? Chances are, several of us may have the answer. In addition, we may have the same question. Together we can create a better solution than any of us could alone.

If you need help, want to help, or are just curious about what resources are out there let us know.

If your sibling has an intellectual or other developmental disability, we’d love to have you join us.

The mission of the Sibling Network is to connect with the siblings of people who are living with an intellectual or other developmental disability.

We will provide resources, knowledge, and encouragement to strengthen their relationship with one another

Place to stay near New Hope?

We had found a wonderful place to stay when we visited our Brother at New Hope - the Magical Land of Oz B&B in Livingston Manor - and over the years we had developed a nice relationship with the owner. We could stay single days; take our brother there for tea or reading by the fire, etc. Unfortunately, the owner is having health problems and is closed temporarily.

We've been staying at the Microtel in Middletown. That's a little far and not nearly as "comfortable" as… Continue

Sibling Picnic - July 18

My husband Jaxon, my brother Kevin (from 204 Michael's Court), and I had a very nice time at the Siblings Picnic last weekend.

It was good meeting other families and sharing experiences.

Special thanks to Terance Duncan and all the New Hope staff for their hard work to give us such a nice day.

I’ll post the first question/issue for the Sibling Blog:

My brother living in New Hope is 55-years old and autistic. We’ve had 4 different episodes in recent years when he exhibited measureable cardiac symptoms that disappeared on further more intense testing. We’re grateful that he does not have cardiac problems but are trying to figure out what causes the symptoms. So far nothing has turned up in an extensive physical, so we’re pursuing any connections between aging in autistics and… Continue

Thanks Terence. We had stayed at the Lazy Pond years ago when Kevin first went to New Hope and the owner was nice. We'll have to check it out again. And the Inn at Lake Joseph looks lovely. Thanks for the recommendations.
